It is DAY 19 of "Raw Food Recipes with Excalibur" and?I am excited to share a really interesting blog I found called Food Storage Moms, where two mothers, Linda and Kendra, share ideas about food storage and emergency preparedness. They recommend affordable products and ideas to help families living on budgets to be aware of the food they are eating, stock up for emergencies and last minute needs, and make the most out of their pantries.
Linda, a mother with four daughters and seventeen grandchildren, raised her family with a huge garden, eating fresh food; she canned everything from apricots, peaches, pears and green beans to salsa and spaghetti sauce; dehydrated everything you can imagine; and baked homemade bread. Having lived in Illinois during extreme winter weather, this lovely lady knows how to preserve fresh food for use later.
Kendra, a mother of four, is also no stranger to being prepared. The skills she gained as a child, living in a family with a big food storage room, came in handy when her husband lost his job and they had to live off their food storage for a couple of months until they got back on their feet. Kendra now takes pride sharing her personal experience and expertise with the community so that they can 'weather the storm' like she did.
So these ladies know how to rock a dehydrator in a multitude of ways like nobody else! Excalibur has a great relationship with these ladies, and I wouldn?t have done this event without them. There are tons of fantastic ideas on their site, like?Tips For Food Storage,?Water Storage and Purification,?Emergency Prep,?72 Hour Kits,?and Great Recipes.
One of my favourite ideas is this fantastic recipe for homemade green smoothie fruit leathers. This is one of the BEST ideas I have seen for sneaking green vegetables into children in a fun and tasty way. What a fabulous simple idea! Get your kids to eat their green smoothie throughout the day!
For 'green phobic' kids, the best thing about these green smoothie fruit roll ups is that they are actually not green! They are a beautiful rich deep red, and look exactly like the commercial fruit roll ups you can purchase at the store. But they are full of nutritionally dense green leafy vegetables! I swear your kids will never know the difference.
In Kendra?s original recipe she used commercial organic strawberry lemonade. The recipe was delicious, but I wanted to make these completely raw without any refined sugar, so made my own strawberry lemonade smoothie sweetened with dates and the results were spectacular. These fruit rolls ups have a slightly tart, sweet flavour, and are fantastic for school lunch boxes, snacks, or treats. The adults loved them too! I am already on my third batch!
Kendra, thankyou for graciously sharing this recipe, and allowing me to post it with the modifications. You ROCK!?
