International Development - Communications Coordinator

The Frontline Health Workers Coalition (FHWC) is a dynamic and influential coalition urging greater and more strategic U.S. investment in frontline health workers in the developing world as the most cost-effective and immediate way to save lives, accelerate progress on the health Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), and improve global health.

FHWC?s goal is to have the U.S.G support new frontline health workers and to better deploy, train and support existing frontline health workers where the need is greatest. IntraHealth is serving as the secretariat for the FHWC.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITES

The primary purpose of the the Communications Coordinator is to develop and implement a communications strategy that heightens awareness and creates a sense of urgency among key stakeholders about expanding and improving USG support for frontline health workers. This position is responsible for developing strategies, processes and content to facilitate the sharing of key issues, challenges, results, lessons learned and resources with a variety of internal and external audiences working with the Coalition. The Coordinator leads efforts to communicate the Coalition?s purpose, scope, objectives and achievements to targeted and general audiences through its website, advocacy briefs, public presentations and articles about coalition policy and data analysis. S/he disseminates policy updates to coalition members and advocacy stakeholders and represents the Coalition at various events and forums. The Coordinator ensures Coalition members and stakeholders can utilize and leverage the information they need, when they need it. S/he will ensure that the FHWC and its members can access cutting-edge, evidenced-based data and information to advance policy dialogue and activities. S/he also oversees the production and quality control of technical documents. The Coordinator also liaises with other advocacy campaigns that complement FHWC objectives.

The Coordinator reports to the Director, Policy Analysis and Advocacy.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Lead development and implementations of communications strategy supportive of the Coalition?s goals that includes defining clear objectives, critical audiences, key messages, multi-media modes of communication, champions and spokespersons, and indicators of progress.Build and maintain relationships with USAID/W, other USG agencies, NGOs/FBOs, and the private sector, in order to exchange knowledge on HRH issues and proposed solutions. Develop FHWC advocacy tools, e.g. fact sheets, press briefs, promising practices series, among others, to share with HRH networks, such as the Good Goes campaign and Coalition members.Maintain the FHWC website and promote its use for Coalition activities and resourcesCollaborate with coalition members to collect, write, edit, and manage results-oriented stories, news and reports about global HRH issues to highlight urgency and action required.Dissseminate information in media-independent formats that respond to audience needs (web, listserv, e-newsletter, limited print)Organize events including webinairs, policy briefings, panels, workshops and use of social media to increase awareness of Global HRH issues.Enlist the support of champions for advocacy messages and eventsDefine key messages responsive to stakeholder needsLiaise with other advocacy campaigns and organizations to build synergies in support of FHWC objectivesCoordinate with Coalition member and other stakeholder websites including HRH Global Resource Center to share information and expand reach for advocacy messagesProvide staff support to coalition communications committeeRepresent the Coalition in stakeholder meetings, conferences and other fora as requiredPerform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

A Master?s degree in communications, social sciences or related degree or an equivalent combination of education and experienceMinimum of seven years related experience, especially in mounting communications campaigns to support advocacy efforts.Knowledge of global health issuesStrong dedication to stakeholder relations and virtual team buildingAbility to use computer systems and effectively organize information on internal and external websitesExperience in using social mediaExcellent communication skills orally and in writing in EnglishAbility to juggle many tasks at a time and ability to prioritize accurately and strategicallyExcellent organizational skills

? Proven ability to take initiative, problem solve, and work well as part of a team
